It's a bit of a stretch, but a record was set on Kelowna's new bridge. A local radio station strung thousands of bras across the length of the new William Bennett Bridge. Andy James of Andy & TJ in the Morning, 101.5 Silk FM, says it was a phenomenal sight. A call went out to collect new or gently used bras for this promotion for Run For the Cure which raises money for breast cancer research, education and awareness programs. Response was incredible in this promotion with over 3,000 bras donated. The new bridge is over one kilometre long with event co-ordinators stringing a chain of bras clipped together for 3 kilometers up and down both sides of the bridge. Watching snippets of the National News with Peter Mansbridge last night it made national headlines. Way to go Silk FM!!!!
Run for the Cure is this Sunday October 5.The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada's largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event. Each year, thousands of Canadians of all ages and walks of life unite to participate in the Run. Each year, thousands of Canadians are touched by breast cancer. It not only impacts the individuals living with the disease, but families, friends and loved ones as well. The reasons for participating vary, but we all have the same goal in mind: to create a future without breast cancer. One in 9 women will get breast cancer in their lifetime. One in 28 will not win the fight!!!!
