Today was a day that we have dreamed of for the past week....a sunny, warm and inviting fall day. The ladies and I attended a wine festival event on the last day of the 10 day festival . We chose an event at St. Hubertus Winery. The view was stunning...
the food encompassing.. the company enriching....
St. Hubertus Winery is one of the oldest in the Okanagan Valley, dating back to 1928 when good agricultural land was plentiful. It is one of over 70 wineries in the valley. This location was selected for its excellent slopes, soil and exposure. The Okanagan Valley has an excellent and unique micro-climate for growing grapes. They don't have to compete with other wine regions; they simply have to promote their own distinct wines. St. Hubertus Winery
Today St. Hubertus has only a few of the original vines planted so many years ago, but, the same first choice growing conditions continue to produce the high quality grapes which produce their award winning wines.
The two Gebert brothers married two sisters and they purchased the winery in 1992. They grew up in Switzerland, bringing with them their European grape growing experience dating back to the 16th century. Their luncheon during the festival is always warm and inviting like the Gebert family themselves.
In keeping with the Thanksgiving long weekend tradition I am thankful for my friends, their support and generosity of time and friendship. In keeping with the whole wine theme for the wine festival I have included song lyrics by Randy Sparks. It uses the word wine and seems to fit the occasion!! I didn't cook with wine for the last 10 days of the festival 'nor did I drink wine every day as I had intended. The afternoons we spent at the wine festival will be emblazoned in our memories forever.....good friends, good food, good times!!!
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today
I’ll be a dandy, and I’ll be a rover
You’ll know who I am by the songs that I sing
I’ll feast at your table, I’ll sleep in your clover
Who cares what tomorrow shall bring
I can’t be contented with yesterday’s glory
I can’t live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries,
I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
‘Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today
