Bruschetta Burgers

Bruschetta Burgers are one of my favourite ways to serve up ground round. I was feeling a little nostalgic with all this talk of childhood , so, decided on some comfort food with Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes and Bruschetta Burgers. Yes it is over 33 Celsius...and no I haven't lost my marbles... so, this is when the gas barbeque comes in very handy. Turn on only one element and create an "oven" effect. I can even brown the cheese in the toaster oven. Have to be creative to beat the heat!!

Can a burger be called a burger without the bun??

**Bruschetta Burgers**

1 egg
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp dried Italian herbs
1/2 tsp salt
freshly ground pepper
1 lb lean ground beef
1 tsp vegetable oil
2 tomatoes, chopped
half sweet green pepper, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/2 cup shredded Provolone of mozzarella cheese

In bowl, whisk together egg, bread crumbs, garlic, 2 T water, herb seasoning and half each of the salt and pepper; add beef and mix well to form patties.

In ovenproof skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat; fry patties until bottoms are browned, about 6 minutes. Turn, cook for 2 minutes.

Meanwhile, in bowl, mix together tomatoes, green pepper, onion, parsley, and remaining salt and pepper. Spoon onto patties; sprinkle with cheese. Broil 4 inches from heat and broil until cheese melts and patties are no longer pink inside, about 4 minutes.
